Iranian actor Amir Jadidi deserves Oscar for ‘Hero’: US publication

A US publication hails Iranian actor Amir Jadidi for ‘Hero’, Iran’s entry for the Academy Awards.

An article by a US publication has hailed Iranian actor Amir Jadidi for his performance in ‘Hero’, Iran’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards.

In a Vanity Fair article on Oscar’s Lead Actor category, David Canfield praised Jadidi for his role in ‘Hero’, directed by two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi, hoping he “gets more of a shot”.

“My long-shot pick would be Amir Jadidi, the star of Asghar Farhadi’s A Hero.”

“This incredibly complex film requires an actor who can deftly play many shades, and Jadidi pulls that off effortlessly; in this story of a man taking shortcuts in his path to redemption, he weaves between the modes of ego trip, protective father, family man, and desperate convict,” Canfield said.

“It’s a marvel to watch; the journey he takes the audience on is so key to the film’s overall (powerful) impact,” he added.

Farhadi's feature is about Rahim, a divorced man who has been imprisoned due to unpaid debt. During a two-day leave, Rahim tries to prove that he is a good person.

‘A Hero’ was awarded the Grand Prix at the 74th Cannes Film Festival in France. The prize was shared by Juho Kuosmanen’s ‘Compartment No.6’.

It is also selected as Iran’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2022 edition of the Academy Awards.
